GMCS develops BI system for DB Schenker in Russia

GMCS has expanded the functionality of the QlikView-based BI system for the Russian office of DB Schenker, the world's leading global logistics provider.

DB Schenker is one of the oldest companies in the global logistics market. The DB Schenker network in Russia is represented by offices in 26 cities. The company is actively developing multimodal transportation in all directions, and some of the proposed logistics services have no analogs in the market.

DB Schenker in Russia has been using the QlikView platform since 2004. During this time, a large amount of data has accumulated in the system, the number of integrations has grown, and the reports used have become insufficient to meet the needs of the business.

Updated by GMCS, the Business Intelligence system allows you to analyze the activities of a logistics company for more than 60 indicators, such as sales, revenues, expenses, freight, tariffs, etc.

For the analysis of income, a dashboard of 35 indicators is configured, and the amount of data received in QlikView is several million lines. GMCS provided the opportunity to conduct in-depth analysis from the creation of the order to payment, including tracking money transactions to the level of posting amounts to accounts. On a separate dashboard, users can analyze the dependence of costs and reserves, track the number of opened orders by weight parameters and types of packaging, affecting the cost of goods transportation.

“Our company is an experienced and progressive business intelligence user. The ambitious plans to strengthen the company's presence in the market of transport and logistics services, as well as the launch of the new TMS CIEL, which records orders for multimodal transportation, required the modification and enhancement of the capabilities of the BI system. We are pleased with the results. The data quality has improved, the speed of report generation has increased, new visualization tools have appeared, which allows specialists to work more efficiently,” says Aivars Taurins, CEO DB Schenker Cluster Russia/Eurasia.

Taking into account the specifics of the transport industry, the BI system is configured with a variety of analytical reports, which DB Schenker needs to ensure the highest quality of services. For example, using a group of quality control reports, DB Schenker in real-time monitors compliance with the deadlines for receiving, delivering and processing orders at the terminal. These reports also consolidate information from several subsystems, checking their correctness, thereby significantly reducing recognition time and reaction to problems.

Advanced reports for tariffs and financial information allow DB Schenker to centrally analyze data entered by different departments. With the help of these reports, the analysis of planned and actual indicators is effectively performed, and the integrity and reliability of the data are monitored.

“The Russian office of DB Schenker set us the task of quickly finalizing the reports being currently in use, enriching them with new indicators and analysts, as well as developing new reports that were required in connection with the reconciliation of data to launch the TMS CIEL system. The GMCS team continues to develop a reporting system, and also plans to create new dashboards together with the customer,” adds Irina Volodkina, Head of Analytical Solutions Department, GMCS.
