GMCS has automated budgeting in CTSP

GMCS has implemented a budgeting system based on IBM Planning and Cognos Analytics solutions for "Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg" (CTSP).

The solution provides effective management of budget planning for a container transshipment complex located on the territory of Big Port St. Petersburg, with a total cargo turnover of over 700 thousand TEUs per year.

“Using the system increases the efficiency of budgeting processes, and improves the preparation of management reporting and cost analysis,” said Alexander Foley, Financial Director of CTSP.

The system is built based on IBM Planning Analytics (based on TM1), a convenient and flexible solution for budgeting, forecasting and data analysis, and IBM Cognos Analytics, a business intelligence tool with advanced capabilities for reporting, dashboards for information and analysis, as well as data visualization.

Key system features are an integrated budget model for all departments of CTSP, assessment of the prime costs in the context of activities, tariffed operations, types of expenses, types and sizes of containers, directions, cost items, as well as analysis of the margins of tariffed operations. The “what-if” scenarios help to respond quickly to changing business conditions, including demand fluctuations, to correct plans and predictions in real-time.

Special attention is paid to working with data. The system provides the construction of more than 80 report forms. The data is combined in a single corporate repository, which is a source of up-to-date and reliable information for all departments in the decision-making process. CTSP specialists can independently create the necessary reports using IBM Cognos Analytics visualization tools.

“Within the project implementation, GMCS applied budgeting system developments for holdings. To illustrate the power of IBM Analytics, budget simulations were performed based on real data. We continue to cooperate with CTSP within the system development tasks,” added Bela Temirkanova, Project Manager of GMCS.
